Costa Rica’s President Luis Guillermo Solis]accidentally ate a wasp during an interview on live TV but brushed off the mishap by describing it as a meal of “pure protein”.

Solis was chatting away to reporters during a tour of the southern part of the country when one of the insects flew straight into his mouth.

But rather than spit it out, the president is seen to visibly swallow the bug before expressing surprise and exclaiming: “I ate, I ate the wasp!”
